Alongside Georgina Pazcoguin, Phil is the co-founder of Final Bow For Yellowface.
Since 2017, almost every major American ballet company has signed the pledge, and Gina and Phil have advised performing arts groups on how to maintain the integrity of works from the classical Western canon while updating outdated representations of Asians. Final Bow for Yellowface was cited in the Paris Opera’s diversity report as a contributing factor in their decision to climate blackface and yellowface from their stages.
Phil received the 2024 Dance Advocate Award from Dance/NYC.
Phil is also a founding member and President of the Gold Standard Arts Foundation, which supports Asian creatives working in the field of dance. He has championed commissions for Asian American artists in multiple disciplines collaborating in dance, including multiple iterations of the 10,000 Dreams Choreography Festival, both online and in person at venues like the Kennedy Center.
